    EMA

To celebrate her November live dates with Zola Jesus, EMA releases ‘Marked’ on 14 November.

This is an intensely sweaty-sway of a track and explores a complicated relationship, over an eerie guitar strum and keyboard drone, where EMA intones raspily, “I wish that every time he touched me / Left a mark”. It is the captured sound of climbing walls. You can check out the video here. It was directed, shot and produced in-house by Leif Shackelford and Erika M. Anderson.

EMA is touring right now! Have a look at all EMA tour dates here.

EMA’s brilliantly feedback-scuffed debut pop album Past Life Martyred Saints was released to a blizzard of plaudits in May 2011.

She has been leaving people with mouths agape ever since. Taking festivals by storm, putting in a blistering sold out show at Cargo in September which the FT succinctly called “awesome”, covered Nirvana’s ‘Endless Nameless’ for Spin’s 20thanniversary of Nevermind and been chosen as one of Converse’s ‘History In the Making’ campaign names. She was ‘history in the making’ to Karen O’s ‘history made’.

It also goes without saying that she has been recognised as one of the most singular artists to emerge in 2011.
